The Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (ICP) continues to champion community empowerment by expanding access to clean water and sustainable irrigation systems. A key milestone in this effort is the proposed Sabor Dam Water Supply Scheme, a transformative project aimed at enhancing economic growth, food security, and resilient livelihoods across the North Rift region.

Designed to meet the increasing demand for both domestic water and agricultural use, the Sabor Dam project will significantly improve water availability for households and farmers alike. By supporting irrigation, the initiative is expected to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen local food systems, and create new income opportunities for communities.

The project will serve a wide geographical area of approximately 473 square kilometres, covering Keiyo North Sub County and Keiyo South Sub County in Elgeyo Marakwet County, as well as Moiben Sub County in Uasin Gishu County. Implementation is being led by the North Rift Water Works Development Agency, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable water infrastructure development.

In addition to project planning, stakeholders continue to engage directly with local communities. Together with Gideon Kimaiyo and Alex Lemarkoko, community leaders recently met with residents of Kaptarakwa Ward. The discussions focused on key development priorities, environmental conservation efforts, and community-driven initiatives to strengthen livelihoods while preserving natural resources.
