The Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) has achieved the complete restoration of the Kaptagat Forest ecosystem, marking a historic milestone in Kenya’s environmental conservation journey. During the 10th Edition of KICP, National Treasury Principal Secretary and KICP Patron Dr. Chris Kiptoo announced the successful rehabilitation of the final 22-hectare degraded section at Chebior in Sabor Forest Station. With the restoration phase complete, KICP is now shifting its focus to rehabilitating the Keiyo Escarpment, protecting water catchments, and promoting tree growing on community and private farms through the distribution of high-value seedlings. This next phase reinforces KICP’s integrated approach to climate action, biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and the protection of one of Kenya’s most important water towers while supporting the national goal of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.
