The recent tragedies in Marakwet East and Keiyo North, alongside landslides that disrupted the Iten–Kabarnet Road, have highlighted the urgent need to protect Kenya’s fragile ecosystems.
On 20 June 2026, Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) Patron Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Principal Secretary for the National Treasury, joined residents of Tambach Ward to inspect ongoing gabion construction works designed to control soil erosion, conserve water resources, and protect the Hanging Valley ecosystem.
The visit reinforced the importance of collaboration between government, local communities, faith institutions, and development partners in strengthening environmental resilience and promoting sustainable conservation initiatives in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
