The Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI) plays a critical role in supporting the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) through scientific research, capacity building, and provision of high-quality tree seedlings. As Kenya’s leading forest research institution, KEFRI partners with KICP to promote evidence-based forest restoration in the Kaptagat ecosystem, including degraded sites within Sabor, Penon, Kessup, Kipkabus, and Kaptagat Forest Stations. KEFRI provides technical guidance on species selection, site suitability, and sustainable land management practices, ensuring that restoration efforts are ecologically sound and climate-resilient. Additionally, KEFRI trains community members and Community Forest Associations (CFAs) on tree propagation, agroforestry, and soil conservation techniques. This collaboration strengthens the long-term success of reforestation initiatives while contributing to Kenya’s broader goals of 15 billion tree planting, watershed protection, and sustainable forest management.
