Twenty households in Kaptagat have transitioned to low-carbon energy use after WWF-Kenya, through the UK PACT Greening Kaptagat project, installed biogas units in their homesteads.
Speaking at today’s handover ceremony, Environment and Forestry Principal Secretary, Dr Chris Kiptoo, encouraged more community members to adopt biogas technology.
“This is the time to transition from dirty energy (fuelwood) to clean energy.” Dr. Kiptoo said.
Under the Greening Kaptagat project, about 200 households in Kapkoi also benefitted from quality water access following installation of solar-powered water pump and construction of 50,000 cubic metre water tank earlier this year.
Further, 48 community members received 450kg-aluminium silos in a bid to improve the livelihoods of the community through reduction of post-harvest losses.
