Empowering Communities through High-Value Agriculture.
Dr Chris Kiptoo and Ephantus Kimotho Kimani – PS (Irrigation), distributed over 150,000 tea seedlings to farmers within the Kaptagat forest ecosystem at Kapkoi Primary School, Keiyo North, Elgeyo Marakwet.
This initiative is part of the Kaptagat Restoration and Livelihood Improvement Programme, now in its 9th year and to be officially launched on 12th July 2025 at Simotwo Boys in Keiyo South. The programme seeks to fully restore our forest and transform livelihoods through the cultivation of high-value crops such as tea, coffee, avocados, and macadamia. These crops have immense potential for tapping into international markets and boosting household incomes.
It was also a nostalgic homecoming to visit my alma mater, Kapkoi Primary, and reconnect with the teachers who laid the foundation for my journey.
At the event, they were joined by Hon. Gideon Kimaiyo, MP for Keiyo South, and environmental youth champion Elizabeth Wathuti – Liz Mazingira.
