On May 4, 2026, Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko officially launched a major fencing initiative for the Kaptagat Forest ecosystem at Sabor Forest Station. The project will cover an extensive 273 kilometres across Kessup, Sabor, Penon, Kaptagat, and Kipkabus forest blocks.
This large-scale conservation effort is designed to enhance the protection of Kaptagat Forest, one of Kenya’s critical water towers. By securing the forest boundaries, the initiative aims to curb encroachment, safeguard biodiversity, and ensure sustainable environmental management.
The fencing project marks a significant step forward in strengthening ongoing conservation efforts, reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to preserving vital ecosystems for future generations.
