Kenya’s commitment to climate action and environmental restoration continues to bear fruit, as evidenced by the thriving trees planted during the 7th edition of the Kaptagat Annual Tree Planting at Kessup Forest Block.

On July 1, 2023, William Samoei Ruto led the landmark tree planting exercise, reinforcing the Government’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 to combat climate change and restore degraded landscapes.

A recent follow-up visit to the section planted during that edition revealed encouraging results, with high survival rates and healthy tree growth. This progress highlights the impact of sustained conservation efforts and the effectiveness of community-led stewardship under the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme.

The visit was conducted alongside Gitonga Mugambi and Alex Lemarkoko, underscoring continued collaboration between government agencies and conservation stakeholders.

The success at Kessup Forest Block demonstrates how long-term investment in reforestation, combined with community engagement, is accelerating Kenya’s progress toward its national tree-growing target while strengthening ecosystem resilience and supporting sustainable livelihoods.
