The Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) has marked another major milestone in sustainable environmental conservation with the commissioning of a new 50-cubic-metre biogas plant at St. Agatha Mokwo Girls Secondary School in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Officially launched by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the clean energy project demonstrates KICP’s commitment to reducing dependence on firewood, protecting the Kaptagat Forest ecosystem, and promoting climate-smart livelihoods. The initiative forms part of KICP’s integrated conservation model, which combines forest restoration, clean energy, water security, and community economic empowerment to safeguard one of Kenya’s most important water towers while improving the quality of life for surrounding communities.
