The Tree Growing Editions under the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme showcase Kenya’s growing impact in forest restoration and climate action. Since the first edition in 2017, the initiative has steadily expanded across key forest stations—including Sabor, Kaptagat, Kipkabus, Kessup, and Penon—restoring over 1,000 hectares of degraded forest land. With the planting of more than 1.7 million seedlings, including high-value avocado trees for community livelihoods, each edition reflects the country’s commitment to increasing tree cover and rehabilitating vital water catchments in the Cherangany–Elgeyo Hills Water Tower.

This annual program brings together government agencies, conservation partners, local communities, and stakeholders to achieve Kenya’s national goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. Featuring notable sites like Bombo, Kapchesoo, and Kipsalen, and supported by organizations such as KVDA, the editions also promote agroforestry, commercial woodlots, and the greening of public lands. The Eldoret-Iten Water Fund, as highlighted in recent editions, further reinforces the role of nature-based solutions in securing water resources and building climate resilience for the region and beyond.
