The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a key partner of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP), providing crucial technical and financial support for sustainable forest management and climate resilience in the Kaptagat ecosystem. Through the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) REDD+ Readiness Project, UNDP supported the development of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Sustainable Forest Management and Tree Growing Policy (2020), a milestone in guiding landscape restoration and carbon mitigation strategies. UNDP’s partnership with KICP strengthens community-based conservation, enhances local governance frameworks, and promotes inclusive climate action by empowering Community Forest Associations (CFAs) and stakeholders across Sabor, Penon, Kipkabus, Kessup, and Kaptagat forest stations. This collaboration contributes directly to Kenya’s national goals of restoring degraded forests, increasing tree cover, and achieving sustainable development in vital water tower regions such as the Cherangany–Elgeyo Hills ecosystem.
