Athletics Kenya is a strategic partner of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP), promoting the integration of sports and environmental conservation within the Kaptagat ecosystem—home to some of the world’s most celebrated long-distance runners. Through this partnership, Athletics Kenya supports tree planting events, youth marathons, and community awareness campaigns that link athletic excellence with the importance of forest restoration and climate action. By organizing activities such as junior races and the Kaptagat Cycling Road Race, Athletics Kenya helps mobilize youth and local communities in support of reforestation efforts across forest blocks including Sabor, Kessup, Kaptagat, Penon, and Kipkabus. This collaboration reinforces the message that a healthy environment is vital not only for athletic performance but also for sustainable livelihoods, water conservation, and biodiversity. Together, Athletics Kenya and KICP are helping to restore the Cherangany–Elgeyo Hills Water Tower and contribute to Kenya’s national target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
