The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet is a core partner of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP), working collaboratively to drive forest restoration, sustainable land management, and climate resilience within the Kaptagat ecosystem. The County provides policy support, planning coordination, and technical assistance for tree planting campaigns across forest blocks such as Sabor, Kessup, Penon, Kipkabus, and Kaptagat. Through this partnership, the County has played a vital role in mobilizing community participation, facilitating the distribution of high-value fruit tree seedlings, and promoting agroforestry as a means of enhancing livelihoods. In 2020, with support from development partners, the County Government launched the Elgeyo Marakwet County Sustainable Forest Management and Tree Growing Policy, a key framework guiding ecosystem restoration efforts. This collaboration with KICP reflects the County’s commitment to increasing tree cover, protecting water catchments, and advancing climate-smart development across the Cherangany–Elgeyo Hills Water Tower.
